Sponsored Brand Product Collection Update 2026: ASIN Requirements & Creative Changes

Recently there has been a significant shift in how Amazon prioritises automation over manual creative control. With this relatively new update, Amazon has taken the creative pressure off Advertisers by removing custom images and headlines from Sponsored Brand adverts.

While the US marketplace has been navigating these waters since late January, the arrival of these changes is now hitting the EU with the UK likely to be affected next.

Here’s a breakdown of the new Sponsored Brand Product Collection format and what it means for your accounts:

The Core Changes:

The “Product Collection” ad format is moving away from static, curated assets toward an AI-driven, fluid experience.

ASIN Requirements: Each ad unit now requires a minimum of 3 ASINs and a maximum of 10.

  • Automation First: Custom headlines and lifestyle images are being phased out in this specific format. Amazon’s AI now dynamically pulls assets and product info directly from your listings.
  • Dynamic Selection: Using first-party signals and real-time shopper behavior, Amazon’s algorithm decides which of your 3-10 products to display to a specific user.
  • Legacy Support: Existing campaigns with fewer than three ASINs are grandfathered in for now and they will continue to run, however be warned that you can no longer add new ad-groups to them, meaning you may have to adjust the existing creatives.

The Impact:

The Upside (Positive Impacts)

  • Lower Barrier to Entry: Removing custom creative requirements (like lifestyle photography and copy approval) makes launching and scaling campaigns much faster, allowing smaller brands to be more competitive within this ad space.
  • Increased Relevance: Because the AI selects which ASIN to lead with based on a shopper’s history, your ads may see a boost in Click Through Rate (CTR) by showing the most “likely to buy” product to each individual. On the other hand, this won’t be effective if trying to push a select range of products which SB campaigns historically excel at.
  • Increased Discovery: With up to 10 ASINs per unit, you have more opportunities to surface your broader catalog rather than relying on a single “hero” product to carry the weight.

The Downside (Negative Impacts)

  • Loss of Brand Voice: The elimination of custom images means you can no longer use unique brand assets within the ad unit. Without a strong, recognisable brand image, sponsored placements can make a product seem interchangeable with competitors.
  • Limited Usage: For brands with a small catalog, or a lower selection of relevant ASINs for a keyword or category, this format is essentially now off limits for new campaigns.
  • Landing Page Ambiguity: It remains unclear how the AI will prioritize the destination page. If the AI displays ASIN “A” but the shopper lands on a collection page dominated by ASIN “B,” the resulting friction could hurt conversion rates.
  • Strategic Rigidness: You can no longer “force” a specific new launch to be the primary image if the AI deems an older, higher-converting product more “relevant” to the search query.

Checklist for the Rollout

  1. Audit Your Catalog: Identify groupings of 3-10 related products that perform well together.
  2. Review Legacy Campaigns: Utilise your existing high performing SB ads to push creatives where possible.
  3. Optimize Listing Assets: Since the ad now pulls directly from the product page, your Main Image and Product Title are now your “ad creative.” Ensure they are high res and conversion ready.
  4. Prepare for Testing: Once the update hits your accounts, run a split test between a manually selected 3-ASIN collection and an AI optimised one to see which version handles the “New Landing Page” experience better.
